We have some appointed (or non-elected) positions available on parent council, commencing September 2016.

These include:

Volunteer Coordinator Chair

The Volunteer Coordinator assists parent council in “recruiting” volunteers for the various positions on parent council through networking and posting open positions with the parent body through a variety of communication avenues (eg panther press, class parents).
The coordinator is also responsible for “recruiting” volunteers through the “Done-in-a-day” volunteer form.  It is the chairs responsibility to compile a list of volunteers from this form and pass it onto the appropriate committee chairs. The coordinator also assists the teachers in identifying class parents and compiling a master list of all class parents. The coordinator communicates with elected chair members to discuss vacant volunteer positions

Teacher/Parent Appreciation Co-Chair(s)

Tasks involved in chairing this position include but are not limited to: new parent breakfast, curriculum night, teacher appreciation lunches/coffees, Winter and Spring Concert refreshment tables, co-coordinator of “thank you’s” to our parent volunteers. Co-ordinate the thank you’s for all volunteers by liasing with committee chairs. provide these names to principal/vice-principal. co-ordinate the thank you’s for all parent council members leaving parent council. Provide these names to the parent council chair.  Developing strong relationships with the school executive, teachers and support staff is critical to the success of this role.

Garden Fete Co-Chair(s)

The Co-Chairs of this committee get to work in the fall, organizing and booking the various activities, games and stations for Garden Fete!  Once the main attractions are booked, this committee generally start to get busy in or around February.  The co-chairs host meetings with committee members and regularly follow up with school administration, committee members and third party vendors to review and make progress with organizing the event.  The Chair will set up the event on the day and help to finalize numbers and provide information on the financial success after the event.  This is Brown School’s big funfair community party of the year and this coming year is the 100th anniversary, so we want the event to be bigger and better than ever!  Event planning experience is ideal, as well as lots of time and availability between February and May.

Technology Chair

The technology chair communicates with parent council executive, the Principal and Vice Principal and the technology committee of teachers, to provide input and ideas re: technology requirements in the school and to feed-back any ideas and requests to Parent Council Executive.

Kindergarten Rep

The Kindergarten Rep helps make parents of kindergarten children feel welcome at the school.
A few specific tasks may include responding to inquiries coming in from the Brown website or any questions from parents; enter periodic message in Panther Press encouraging kindergarten parents to get involved; organize periodic gatherings to help kindergarten parents meet fellow parents; and provide feedback to Parent Council Executive.

There is no need to submit a nomination form for any of the above appointed (non-elected) positions.  If you are interested in helping in any of these roles please contact Martha McCall, Volunteer Coordinator, mccall.marthae@gmail.com
