As a former member of the Elmer Iseler Singers, Ms. Turner is a choral music enthusiast, and she is excited to co-lead the Brown Junior Choir, along with Ms. Merenda and Ms. Mankiewicz. The choir is accompanied by our incredible parent volunteer Channing Huang.

The Junior Choir meets at lunch on Day 4. All interested students in grades 4 to 6 can participate in the Junior Choir. The choir focuses on producing a blended sound, beautiful two-part singing and of course, having fun. The Junior Choir will participate in the TDSB non-competitive music festival in May of each year.  This gives the choir an opportunity to hear other choirs and compete in a friendly environment.

The C.A.B. Brown singers meet on Day 5.  Students who want to join the C.A.B. Brown Singers have to be in grades 4-6 and must audition for Ms. Turner. The C.A.B. Brown Singers competed in the Kiwanis festival for the first time in 2016, earning a gold level  of 86% for their performance.  Singers are required to learn their music from recordings (as prepared by Ms. Turner) and be ready to sing their own part at each rehearsal. Our goal is to sing two-part music at a very high level.

Both choirs sing at many school events, including Remembrance Day, Winter Concert, Spring Concert and Garden Fete.  As well the choirs have performed at the Toronto Marlies game, Massey Hall Spring Concert, with the Healey Willan Singers and in the atrium of Longo’s Market.

Please speak to Ms. Turner if you have any questions about the choral program at Brown Public School.  We are very happy to accept new singers every fall and you don’t have to have any choir experience to join us.
